Why Franklin Properties Have Persistent Bird Problems

Franklin's historic downtown is one of the most visited in Middle Tennessee, and its 19th-century brick storefronts, ornate cornices, and recessed window ledges along Main Street and the public square are prime pigeon habitat. Property owners on and around the square deal with droppings on storefronts, outdoor dining areas, and historic facades that require constant cleaning — and the problem compounds every season without permanent exclusion. The same architectural features that make downtown Franklin beautiful create ideal nesting and roosting conditions for pigeons.

Franklin's rapid residential and commercial growth along the Mack Hatcher Parkway, Cool Springs Boulevard, and Murfreesboro Road corridors has created a new wave of bird pressure on retail centers, medical campuses, and Class A office buildings. The Cool Springs Galleria area and the dense commercial development along I-65 attract pigeons to flat rooftops, parking structures, and loading docks.
